We play in the Wetherby Cricket League, based in the heart of Yorkshire. The beautiful village of Walton lies in the valley of the River Wharfe, just 2 miles east of Wetherby with it’s origins going back nine hundred years. St Peter’s Church tower proudly overlooks the expansive cricket field which many believe is one the loveliest cricket grounds in the area.
Walton Park Cricket Club takes it’s name following the 2015 merger of 2 very historic local cricket clubs Walton CC and Wighill Park CC, the latter having been created by Lord Hawke, one of the most colourful characters in the history of Yorkshire cricket. Both clubs began playing cricket over a hundred years ago, with the merged club now playing at its Springs Lane ground in Walton.
In 2019, our senior club will compete in Divisions 2 and 3 of the Wetherby Cricket League, our first XI gaining promotion in 2016 & 2017. Our second XI were promoted in 2018
The club also has a flourishing junior section with teams competing at Under9’s, Under11’s, Under13’s, Under15’s and Under18’s in the Wetherby League with additional teams playing in the York Junior Cricket League. During 2017 we introduced a girl’s only team as well.
Thanks to much hard work by members, friends and supporters we have a facility which is one of the best in the area.
New players and supporters are always welcome so please do call in to watch a match and enjoy the hospitality of Roly’s Bar.
